6th July, 2018 Beachy Head Early mist becoming hot and sunny.SW 1-2

An early start to beat the heat, with early mist becoming hot and sunny. We covered Birling lane, Birling scrub, Shooters Bottom, Old Trapping Area, Hotel Garden, Icky Ridge and Belle Tout wood.

13 Sand Martins in one group over the cliffs moving W, but the  surprise was an adult type Nightingale calling a lot and even sang just 3 notes in Shooters Bottom which is our first for this year.

On our walk on the Headland good numbers of butterflies were seen with the highlight being 2 White-lettered Hairstreaks.

On our way home, we stopped off at Newhaven Harbour at low tide and although a number of gulls were present on the beach no sign yet of any juvenile Yellow-legged Gulls.
