9th January, 2018 Beachy Head and Sovereign Harbour, Eastbourne. Murky, overcast mild S 1

We sea-watched from 08.05 to 09.10 with just a trickle of birds moving:

Red-throated Diver 13 (9 E and 4 on the sea)
Great-crested Grebe 2 on the sea
Gannet 13
Brent Geese 22 E
Shelduck 6 W
Common Scoter 60 W in one flock
Oystercatcher 15 on Birling beach
Curlew 6 W
Auk Sp. 3 on sea
Razorbill 3 E
Common Gull 300-400 Birling fields

We then moved onto Sovereign Harbour, Eastbourne and located the Black Guillemot on the west side of the Inner harbour near the moored lifeboat, where it showed very well. We even watched it swimming under the water.
