2nd October, 2019 Beachy Head Fine and sunny cool breeze N 2-3

We covered Birling lane, Belle Tout wood, Shooters Bottom and the Old Trapping Area. Met up with ASC who was covering most of the Headland sites and RAB who had covered the Cliff Path and the upper Rides above the cliff path, Icky Ridge, radio mast bushes, Hotel Garden. SL, and JG walked from Birling to Micheldene then over to Belle Tout wood, Shooters Bottom and the Old Trapping Area.
Good numbers of Chiffchaffs, a small influx of Song Thrushes and a record day count of Stonechats.
Blue Tits were again seen in good numbers with one flock totalling 19 flying over the Old Trapping Area. Highlights were 5 Common Redstarts, 1 Firecrest and a Short-eared Owl.

Stonechat 70 on the Headland with 24 counted in field opposite B/T wood. (Day record count for Beachy Head, with the previous daily record count was on the 6/10/1973 when 60 were seen).

Some sad news, a freshly dead Yellow-billed Cuckoo was found at Seaford this morning. photos.
