6th and 7th August, 2018 Beachy Head

6th August, 2018. Hot and sunny with a light breeze

RB visited Old Trapping Area, Shooters Bottom, Belle Tout wood area and then walked onto Birling covering the scrub. He also met up with RKH, RS and KH. Small numbers of night migrants were seen:

Marsh Harrier 1 female over Shooters Bottom
Swift 20-30 feeding over top fields
Nightingale 1 Shooters Bottom
Grasshopper Warbler 1 Shooters Bottom (seen by RKH, RS and KH)
Sedge Warbler 3
Reed Warbler 2
Blackcap 1
Lesser Whitethroat 3
Willow Warbler 10
Pied Flycatcher 1 in the Old Trapping Area briefly

7th August, 2018 Very hot, humid and sunny. Light SW variable breeze.
We started off at Birling covering the lane and the scrub on the western side. Onto the Old Trapping area, Hotel Garden including the toilet car park bushes, Icky Ridge, Shooters Bottom, Belle Tout wood and scrub.
Low numbers of night migrants and virtually no diurnal migration although a high Red Kite E over Shooters Bottom.

Swallow 40 chiefly E
Pied Wagtail 5 Birling

Lesser Whitethroat 3

Starling flock of about 800 including many juveniles.
