4th October, 2015 Beachy Head Fine sunny and warm ESE 0-1

Whops I missed the perch

A stunning autumnal morning with a fine sunrise. We covered most of the main headland sites with the exception of the Belle Tout loop. It felt just right for a few goodies, but then we realised we were at Beachy and not on the Shetlands. Night migrants were chiefly Chiffchaffs and Goldcrests and even these were in fairly meagre numbers although most Chiffchaffs were quickly moving inland within the first hour of dawn. Diurnal migration was also poor although our best morning this autumn for Pied Wagtails.

Common Buzzard 1

Skylark 28 chiefly W
Sand Martin 2
Swallow 100
Meadow Pipit 50
Pied Wagtail 43 E

Chiffchaff 40 majority moved inland within the first hour after dawn.
Goldcrest 20
Continental Coal Tit 2 still present at Birling
Blue Tit Fair numbers were seen moving inland at the same time as the Chiffchaffs.

Another fine sunrise at Birling

Two Continental Coat Tits were still showing occasionally at Birling.

Chiffchaffs were quickly flying off from Birling heading inland
