14th and 15th July, 2015 Southwater wood and Newhaven

14th July, 2015 Southwater wood

A short visit in cloudy but warm conditions. Disappointing, other than good numbers of Meadow Browns, Gatekeepers and Ringlets with just 7 Silver-washed Fritillaries, and 1 White Admiral were seen.

 15th July, 2015 Newhaven Harbour

Initially went to Beachy Head, but drizzle and thick mist which just allowed me to cover Shooters Bottom and Belle Tout wood with little of interest seen.

With the tide coming in, we decided to visit Newhaven Harbour where there were a few Gulls on the beach which included a single juv. Yellow-legged Gull. After some 20 minutes, it departed over the western breakwater. After a couple of minutes I picked out a juv. Yellow-legged Gull which joined the few Gulls which were left on the beach. This bird gave the impression of being a larger individual than the previous bird although I could not be certain of this.

Juv. Yellow-legged Gull, possibly a second individual  which arrived
within a couple of minutes, after the earlier bird had flown over the
western breakwater in Newhaven Harbour.
