7th March 2019. Beachy Head Clear, sunny periods cold. W 7

Cold strong wind made sea-watching difficult as well as us getting very cold. It is days like today that I miss the hut, with virtually no shelter from the cold wind. We sea-watched from 06.40-08.40 and then had to give up as I was now shivering. I managed to cover Belle Tout wood but other sites were just too windy to visit.
Considering the conditions a reasonable passage of Brent Geese with many of the flocks moving high up above the horizon and many thanks to Doreen for picking most of these flocks out. Also 17 Mediterranean Gulls including a party of 11. A showy Firecrest performed well in Belle Tout wood.

Black-headed Gull flock of c80 E
Large numbers of Herring and Common Gulls moving E

Green Woodpecker 1 calling B/T wood

On the drive home, we made a brief visit to the upper part of the Cuckmere Valley which is well flooded at the present time. No sign here of the Glossy Ibis, but the Cattle Egret was present in a field before flying off heading south and a fine Water Pipit was present around a flooded pool for around 10 minutes. A Bar-headed Goose with 2 Canada Geese flew over the area and a Cetti's Warbler was singing where we parked the car.
