5th August, 2018 Beachy Head Very hot and sunny NE 1





Yet another very hot and sunny day. We covered Birling lane and scrub area opposite, Belle Tout wood and scrub area on western side of car park, Shooters Bottom. We met up with RAB who had walked the Top fields to Long Down, Hotel Garden, Belle Tout wood and Shooters Bottom.
LP had walked from Hotel Garden to Birling covering the usual sites and Bob, Sarah and Martin were ringing and watching in Whitbread Hollow. SL covered Went Hill and the Birling area, to Shooters Bottom.
Virtually no diurnal migration recorded, but still a reasonable flow of night migrants with another fall of Willows and also Reed and Sedge Warblers, but also some left-overs from yesterday.

Still large numbers of Common Blues and other common butterflies, no estimate made, also 8 Silver Y moths and 2 Hummingbird Hawk moths. SL also recorded the following butterflies:
