12 April, 2022 Sea-watching from Birling Gap Mainly overcast mild SE-E 2-3

12th April, 2022 Sea-watching from Birling Gap. 06.05-10.05, We joined RAB and KG at 06.30 and stayed until 10.00. Still an interesting morning but not as hetic as the previous two mornings, at least it was warmer this morning. Once again birds were mainly moving E unless otherwise stated.

Red-throated Diver 60. Black-throated Diver 1 @ 07.00,  Gannet 177, Brent Goose 59, Shelduck 7 with 1 W, Shoveller 15, Teal 8, Eider 15, Velvet Scoter 6, Common Scoter 728, Red-breasted Merganser 2, Whimbrel 13, Black-headed Gull 70, Little Gull 3, Mediterranean Gull 30, Kittiwake c100, Sandwich Tern 565, Common/Arctic Tern 4, Black Tern 1, Arctic Skua 22, Pomarine Skua 1 @ 08.20, Razorbill/Guillemot 63.

Carrion Crow 1 in off the sea, Swallow 1 in off the sea.

The Pomarine Skua is just our earliest Spring record, our previous earliest records were in 1967 13E on the 13/4 and 2003 8E on the 14/4.
