10th August, 2010 Beachy Head Clear sunny and hot E to SE 1-2

We covered Birling scrub and tamarisk bushes, radio mast bushes, Hotel Garden, Icky Ridge, Old Trapping area and spent 30 minutes watching from the car-park, and Belle Tout wood. RE covered the Hollow, Shooters Bottom and Belle Tout wood, LP covered  the Old Trapping Area, and several other sites on the Headland and RB also covered Shooters Bottom and the Belle Tout area.
A decent arrival of migrants chiefly on the Headland with the highlight being a Melodious Warbler which showed well but briefly in the Hotel Garden before flying off high towards Icky Ridge. Other highlights included a Pied Flycatcher which was present in the Old Trapping Area, it then departed E with a Redstart, and also  a number of other migrants moved off E out of the area. A ring-tailed Hen Harrier was seen over B/T wood before it also departed E over the top fields.
Overhead migration was also in evidence with small numbers of three species of hirundines, a flock of 11 Crossbills and a flock of 25 Goldfinches again all were moving E.
