25th January, 2018 Beachy Head, Newhaven Harbour and Widewater Early rain, becoming brighter SW4 increasing to 5-6

Rained the whole drive to Beachy but luckily it had stopped when we arrived at Birling. We sea-watched from 08.00-09.15 but generally a disappointing watch.

Red-throated Diver 6 (5 E & 1 W)
Gannet 22
Fulmar 4
Brent Geese 9 E
Curlew 4 E

Kestrel 1
Stonechat 1

We then moved onto Newhaven Harbour with the tide going out. No sign of the Great-northern Diver. Reasonable numbers of gulls on the beach, chiefly Common and Black-headed with only about 30 Herring types and unfortunately no White-wingers.

We briefly called into Widewater on our drive home and soon located the pair of Goosanders but otherwise just 2 Little Egrets seen.

View from Birling along the Seven Sisters to Seaford Head.

Yet another cliff fall.
