28th June, 2016 Weirwood Reservoir & 30th June, 2016 Cuckmere

On the 28th, Doreen and myself visited Weirwood in the late afternoon in the hope that a returning Wader or Tern may have put in an appearance. We first visited the Damn area but just 10 Common Terns were present on the bouys plus the usual Grebes etc. We then drove to the west end where 2 Common Terns with 2 chicks on the floating raft and a female Mandarin Duck with 1 very small young.

On the 30th we paid a visit to the Cuckmere during the afternoon when the tide was out and walked to the scrape and back. Unfortunately no sign of any returning migrants but 12 Little Egrets, plus the usual suspects.

Two broods of Shelduck, the first with just 2 small young and the
second with 9 large young

I have seen this goose on a number of occasions in the Cuckmere
over a number of years. It seems to fit the hybrid cross of Canada
Goose and Grey-lag Goose and these can be very variable.

My first Marbled White of the year - No doubt I will being seeing
several hundred over the next few weeks on Beachy Head.
