Sunday 1 May 2016

1st May, 2016 Beachy Head Early frost becoming sunny and warm N becoming W 1

A fine clear morning and almost windless. Brief sea-watch but with a light N wind no movement recorded.
With a clear sunny morning little expectation for night migrants but somewhat surprise that small numbers were present on the Headland, with the highlights being at least 6 Lesser Whitthroats and a Short-eared Owl which was flushed by a dog  in the Cow Gap field. Small numbers of Swallows with a few House Martins were heading north. We covered Birling lane, Old Trapping Area, Hotel Garden, Icky Ridge, Cliff Path and Belle Tout wood, meeting up with Bob Edgar who was covering the Birling loop and Roger Haggar and Bob Smith who were covering several sites on the Headland.
