28th March, 2015 Beachy Head and Crawley

A depressing visit with a damp fog covering the Headland with a SW-W wind. Unable to sea-watch so we covered Belle Tout wood and the scrub to B/T lighthouse and then the lower walk towards Birling. We then visited Shooters Bottom. No sign of the fog lifting so after 2 hours, we called it a day.

Redshank 1 heard calling
Stonechat 2
Chiffchaff 5
Firecrest 3 by the side of B/T wood
Yellowhammer 1
Corn Bunting 6 singing and holding territory.

With news of an Alpine Swift near Manor Royal, Crawley, we decided to try to twitch it and although we had a wait, it first showed distantly and then late afternoon it spent some time flying around the Virgin Atlantic building before appearing to roost on it. At one time it flew low down right over my head giving some superb views.
