4th October, 2012 Thursday Hegura Day 6

Out by 05.25 and we did the usual walk before breakfast. Fine sunny day becoming hot with a NW wind 4 decreasing during the day to 1.After breakfast we went straight to the School field hoping for better views of yesterdays Tristram's Bunting and found 2 and also found our first Dusky and Yellow-browed Warblers of the trip. Good numbers of Buntings were again present. We then birded the Tsukasa fields and found an European Tree Pipit, a good species for Japan, and worked our way around the Island. Another arrival of Olive Backed Pipits and Arctic/Pacific Warblers, but Flycatcher numbers were way down although we did see two 1st W. Mugimaki and another Narcissus Flycatcher. A Varied Tit along the Central Track was a surprised find of this usually sedentary specie. In the evening, we went back for further views of the Dusky Warbler and although elusive it did respond to tape playback.
