Sea-watching Birling Gap, Beachy Head

16th March, 2022 Sea-watching Birling Gap, Beachy Head, Overcast, mild SE light breeze.

Observers: John. and  David Cooper Sea-watch time: 06.30 - 10.30

Brent Goose 147 E,  Red-throated Diver 27E and 3W, Gannet 61 E, Arctic Skua 1 E @ 06.50, Common Scoter 85 E,  Shoveler 1 E, Eider 1 drake E, Garganey 20 E (4@-07.25, 12 @ 07.35 & 4 @ 08.40), Pintail 18 E, Mallard 1 E, Mediterranean Gull 5 E, Great-crested Grebe 3 (2 on sea, 1 W) , Shelduck 2 W, Kittiwake 24 E (two tight parties on the move), Razorbill 3 (2 E 1 on the sea), Guillemot 1 on the sea, Alba Wagtail 3 in off the sea, Stonechat 4, Raven 1.

Comment: Garganey - 20 E is our largest day movement so far recorded at Beachy Head. Our previous best year was in 1973 when 16 moved E during the Spring sea-watches.
